On the occassion of Globalia’s 5th Anniversary, we did an interview with Mr. Paul Petrovski, the Managing Director of PCFS Logistics, Globalia member in Sydney, Australia. As one of Globalia’s founder members, who has been with us for more than 5 years, Mr. Petrovski is in the perfect position to talk about the strong points of the network and how it promotes the all round growth of the member companies. In this interview, Mr. Petrovsky, tells us about his experience at Globalia, how his company has consolidated its operations in the last 5 years, the advantages of Globalia’s Annual Meetings and much more.
Read the full interviewIn the last few years, the freight forwarding industry has witnessed a new phenomenon viz. the rise of digital freight forwarders. The tremendous need for automation and technological innovation culminated in the emergence of this new category of online freight forwarders. But why didn’t this happen earlier? Why were freight forwarders so reluctant to the digital transformation and why are they still bottled up in the old working ways?
We chat with Manuel Cardona, Globalia’s IT Manager and FreightViewer Developer, who has provided us with interesting inputs and anecdotes about the hidden reality behind the freight forwarding industry that he discovered while launching FreightViewer. By taking an in-depth look at this, he has been able to create a truly practical and useful TMS.

They have launched this online certificate to digitize their services, offer enhanced accessibility of the network’s intranet and to provide innovative benefits for the network members. To this end, Globalia’s IT team has developed a new section in the intranet from where the agents can access and download the certificate attesting their membership of the network. Moreover, this certificate also includes the date on which the network accepted the agent.
Read the articleGoogle’s recently launched two tools to help with the optimization of the last mile delivery process. The Last Mile Fleet Solutions which come integrated with Google Maps would help to enhance every step of the last-mile delivery process starting from ordering to reaching the item to the doorstep. The Cloud Fleet Routing API which is integrated with Google Cloud is a tool that helps with route planning for trucking fleets.
The Last Mile Fleet Solution is presently being reviewed publicly. The Cloud Fleet Routing API will not be available for use until mid-2022. Google still hasn’t made available the pricing information for these tools. Moreover, the potential users of these new platforms will be required to work in coordination with the sales team of Google.
According to Hans Thalbauer, the Managing Director of Google Cloud’s Global Supply Chain and Logistics Industries, “The pandemic further accelerated both e-commerce and the number of deliveries, which were already growing rapidly. The increased strain on delivery networks, plus many other factors like driver shortages, poor address data, factory closures, and an increase in fuel prices have impacted delivery time and success.” The newly created tools will facilitate the operation of the delivery fleet and address the above issues to provide a seamless experience for fleet managers, drivers, and end customers.
The US Department of Energy will team up with OEMs for expansion of the zero-emission vehicle technology with the ‘SuperTruck 3’ programme that would lower costs and enhance durability in electric trucks
The 6% increase in export volumes has played a major part in the expansion of the total number of reefer containers handled in the Port of Antwerp
President Joe Biden has called out these multinational shippers asking them to explain the causes behind the massive increase in prices in the last two years New Year in February
The escalation of the Russia-Ukraine War is affecting the regular movement of the China-Europe freight train as well as shipping routes via air and sea
In the words of Christian Roeloffs, the CEO of Container xChange, "The rise in awareness for SOCs shows that industry participants are responding to the supply-chain pressures by diversifying their sourcing strategy".
The use of intermodal containers has brought about a significant transformation in the freight forwarding sector. The specialty of these containers is that they can be used in a variety of transportation modes. These kinds of containers are ideal for long-haul shipments and can help you save up to 30% fuel expenses. They are coming up as a key component of improving sustainability in logistical operations.
These large shipping containers can be used for sea, ground, or rail freight. Moreover, they can be used for international cargoes where the shipments need to cross both land and water bodies before arriving at their destination. The intermodal containers are designed as per the ISO standards and come with ISO certification which attests to the structural integrity, quality, and durability of these boxes.
Dry freight containers These are the most common type of intermodal containers that can carry all kinds of shipments. They are airtight boxes without any ventilation.
Insulated containers
As the name suggests, these containers are meant for transporting all kinds of perishable cargo. Although they cannot heat or cool on their own, they are able to maintain the temperature level for a long time thus keeping the freshness of the goods intact.
Reefer containers
Unlike insulated containers, reefers or refrigerated containers come with an inbuilt refrigeration unit. They are capable of maintaining an internal temperature between -65 degrees C to 40 degrees C. These containers are ideal for perishable items such as fish, poultry, meat, and medicines.
Flat rack containers
These containers come with collapsible sides that can be folded. They are most suitable for carrying OOG cargoes and heavy or wide shipments that are not compatible with closed shipping containers.
Open-top
Just like the flat rack containers, the open-top boxes are also meant for heavy and bulky cargoes that do not fit within a closed box. The open-top containers don’t come with a roof.
The key points of difference between intermodal and multimodal containers are as follows:
While the intermodal containers use different contracts with multiple providers, the multimodal containers make use of a single contract with one carrier.
Secondly, with intermodal containers, the logistics manager of all the companies involved in the transportation gets the flexibility to select the best rate for every contact. In the case of multimodal containers, the manager has to decide on a fixed rate for the entire duration of the journey.
The growth of our network in the past few years has been astounding but we still have enough room for more agents!
