President and Founder - Globalia Logistics Network
Networking is of utmost importance for freight forwarders who want to expand their operations and create a global presence. Globalia’s 2nd Virtual Meeting opened up a perfect networking avenue that allowed the members to smooth the way for new projects, find dependable international partners, and ultimately generate a greater ROI.
We kicked off the conference with a Welcome Speech from Globalia President and Founder, Antonio Torres where he talked about the present industry scenario, the need for digitization in the sector, and all the latest achievements of the network.
Over 1150 one-to-one meetings held in the course of the event allowed members to touch base with existing and potential partners, secure long-term partnerships, and obtain several collaboration opportunities.
The delegates participated in the online FreightViewer workshops during which Globalia’s FreightViewer Coordinator Andrea Martin, provided live demonstrations explaining all the new updates that have been added to the software in the last one year.
This year we created a special opportunity for delegates to catch up with each other during the coffee breaks. Delegates had the option of accessing a chat room with up to 5 random members and engage in informal chitchats. This not only helped to break the ice among the members but also strengthened the bonding among existing and future partners.
After successfully concluding Globalia’s 2nd Virtual Meeting, the next thing on your agenda should be a proper meeting follow-up plan. Meeting follow-ups are absolutely crucial for nailing your meeting and securing new projects. However, it is not wise to push your partners with constant calls and endless follow-up emails. Nor is it wise to sit down and wait for your partner to make the first move. Your approach to sales and collaboration needs to be more professional. We are going to provide you with several tips for a successful meeting follow-up strategy so that you can engage in a fruitful collaboration.
Having a clear discussion with your partner about the next course of action is the most straightforward follow-up plan you can have. Before concluding your one-to-one videoconference, just ask your partner which is the best way to reach them to discuss the project in more detail. This honest and direct approach will also help to build more confidence between you and your partners.
After the conclusion of your business meeting, it is always a good idea to send your partner an email on the same day. This should be a short message where you thank your partner for their time and even write a few lines about the key action items. This will help to communicate your understanding of the project to your partner and in case of the slightest misunderstanding, it can be immediately clarified.
Time is of the essence when it comes to a successful follow-up of your business meeting. Therefore, you not only need to reach out quickly but also send prompt replies to queries and quote-related emails from your partners.
During the one-to-one meetings, you need to note down all the important points. These notes you took during the meeting will help you create a compelling email that will convince your partners that you are aware of their exact requirements. Write an appropriate subject line to distinguish your mail from any other blanket email.
Your business follow-up should not necessarily be a tool for project generation. It can also be used effectively to build your company’s image. Therefore, you can always send an email to your partner where you can send tips and possible solutions for pulling off a complicated project that you just discussed. You can recommend your industry peers or send valuable resources that can help your partner with the project at hand. This is a very effective lead nurturing strategy that has a positive influence on your business image.
Globalia’s reinforced marketing department is implementing SEO tactics to help increase the visibility of our members. Every week we publish the news about the achievements of our members that are SEO optimised for better ranking on Google.
Remember that your follow-up strategy should not only be focused on getting new businesses. Your primary objective should be building trust with your partners and delivering value and your post-meeting strategy should reflect this concern.

Since moving to IATA in 2007 he has played major roles in several key initiatives of the organization.
He was a major contributor towards the One Source platform that offers extensive data on infrastructural capacities required for making the most of special shipment and e-commerce projects. As stated by Nick Careen, IATA’s Senior Vice President for Operations, Safety, and Security, “Brendan will be a great Global Head of Air Cargo. He knows the industry from frontline operations to the development of global standards. He recognizes the critical need for modernization to meet the needs of air cargo’s biggest business opportunities- e-commerce and special cargo. Cargo theft is one of the recurring problems the freight forwarding industry has
to regularly contend with. The issue has become all the more alarming in recent
years. According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, in the US alone around
$15 to $30 billion worth of merchandise is stolen every year.
Shipment theft practices are evolving by the day. Starting from electronic
commodities, to luxury items to food products, cargo thieves are always on
the lookout for shipments that fetch good value in the black market. Logistics
operators need to understand the emerging cargo theft measures to recognize
their vulnerable spots and lower the chances of cargo theft. Read on to find
common cargo theft practices and things you should do to prevent them.
Straight cargo theft refers to a situation where your shipment is physically burgled from any
given location. Mostly these kinds of thefts are carried out at truck stops, parking lots, drop
lots, and other spaces where the cargo is left unattended. Trucks and trailers that don’t come
with any preventive measures are the more susceptible to thefts.
In order to prevent straight lifting of the cargoes, the logistics companies should secure
their operations. For example, the loaded trucks and trailers should never be left
unattended and the rear doors should be secured with high security or air cuff locks.
By this, we mean the theft of shipments by unusual methods involving the use of fraud and scams. The scammers are known to trick the forwarders, carriers, and brokers into handing over the shipment to the thieves rather than the legitimate carrier. Methods of this kind of fraud include identity theft, scams involving double brokering, deceitful forwarders, false pickups, or a mix of all the above methods.
Keep in mind that cargo burglars generally try to haul shipments that are brokered on late Friday afternoons. This is because Friday is usually closer to the deadline when the shippers are more prone to make mistakes and vet the carrier less rigorously.
Freight companies need to come up with a strong vetting practice to ensure the prevention of these kinds of frauds. In other words, they need to double-check the contact and company info of the carriers. Moreover, the easiest way to avoid this scam is to work with trustworthy partners with whom you have previously worked before. You need to check the identification of the drivers at the pick-up point and even cross-check the identifying data of the truck you are using.
Pilfering of cargo from warehouses has always been one of the most common concerns of
logistics companies. In this kind of cargo theft, you might not even realize that a part of your
cargo is missing until you reach the consignee’s destination. Unless you’re able to detect the
exact time and location of the theft, the police are not going to be of much help.
In order to avoid cargo pilferage, logistics companies should instruct the truck drivers to
make walk-around inspections of the trailers at every stop. Additionally, the use of the best
rear door locks can ensure the prevention of this kind of theft. Moreover, it is also a good
idea to identify the theft prone routes and avoid them or take necessary precautions.
Ever since the supply chain industry started digitizing its operations, there has been an
increase in cyber crimes in this sector. Phishing emails are the most common scam in the
freight forwarding industry. You might receive an email supposedly from your logistics
partner that is not actually sent by them but by someone who has hacked into their account
or using their name. Generally, these are payment-related emails where you are told to make
the payment to the new bank details provided. Moreover, the emails can also include a link
clicking on which could result in the installation of a malware that might allow the attacker to
obtain sensitive data from your computer.
You need to verify the bank details of the partner by talking to them directly over the
phone. Additionally, you should never give out any sensitive information like account
details, password, OTP, credit card details to anyone. In case the email comes with a
suspicious link, just hover your mouse over the link to check the address. If the address
doesn’t look legitimate make sure not to click. Lastly, you need to ramp up your cyber
security to identify and prevent these kinds of attacks.
