In May, the cargo division of International Airlines Group (IAG)- an Anglo-Spanish multinational Airline, has announced the opening of a new route from Madrid to Guayaquil. This new route will come with three weekly flights via an Airbus A330- 200. They have undertaken this new initiative to establish a direct trade link for the perishable cargo sector. Spain is an important importer for perishable commodities from Ecuador like cut flower and this new route is expected to boost trade in this sector.
IAG Cargo was created after the merger of Iberia Cargo and British Airways World Cargo around ten years back. With the combined forces of five international airlines, it is now covering a network of 350 cities globally.
Additionally, IAG is also increasing the frequency of flights between Madrid to Mexico and Brazil. In the words of Rodrico Casal, The Regional Commercial Manager for IAG Cargo in Latin America, “These extra services represent a unique opportunity for business in the region and we are excited to support the perishable industry further and offer more capacity for the automotive sector.” From the first week of June forwarders will also be able to access ten weekly flights from Madrid to Mexico City. On the other hand, the new cargo flight route between Madrid and San Juan, Brazil is going to facilitate the movement of pharmaceutical and electronic items.
After the setback caused by the pandemic, they are presently trying to get more flights back to the air. Currently they are running ten weekly flights from Madrid to Mexico City for shipping PPE, pharmaceutical items, automotive and perishable cargoes. Mr. Casal further adds, “We have always had excellent connections between Europe and Latin America, so we are delighted to be able to offer this new direct route to Ecuador alongside increasing frequencies to Brazil and Mexico, and resuming our service to Puerto Rico.”
They are making substantial improvements in this sector to boost their handling capacity of temperature sensitive pharmaceuticals and vaccines
E2Open is going for this acquisition to better deal with the pandemic induced shipping disruption and shortages
They are in the process of designing an ambitious programme to stop the used and returned goods from piling up in the landfills
The number of orders for cargo ships have almost doubled the orders for 2019 and 2020 combines and shipyards in China and South Korea are the biggest gainers
UPS has made considerable investments in dry ice production, freezer farms, warehousing and tracking technologies that will prove useful even after the demand for vaccine reduces
The success of entrepreneurs in the transportation and logistics industry large hinges on the efficacy of their collaborative endeavours. As the industry has started to recover from the disruptions caused by the pandemic, it has become even more important for logistics companies to collaborate closely to counter the threats posed by the multinationals. All of this supports the idea of the importance of collaboration for independent freight forwarders.
The first and most important reason why small and mid-sized logistics companies collaborate is to increase their profit margin. Mutual collaboration results in an augmented project volume. In other words, you get new businesses from your logistics partner in a different city who is in need of a reliable service provider in your territory. Forwarders with collaborative relationships are known to survive even during the crisis times. Moreover, it results in a solid long-term partnership that benefits both the parties.
Collaboration allows freight companies to pull off a complicated project successfully by combining the logistical expertise of two companies. Leveraging the strong points of two companies is the basis of a successful partnership. It drives innovation and encourages both the parties to put forward their best performance.
One of the most important reasons why freight forwarders collaborate is to expand their market. Putting it simply, it is through collaboration that small and independent freight forwarders get to globalize their operations. You might not have branch offices in all the major cities of the world like the multinational companies. However, you have a strong network of logistics partners representing every major city who will keep you covered whenever you need help with a cargo in a different city, country or continent. This allows you to take up all sorts of logistics projects regardless of the point of origin or destination.
A mutually beneficial cooperation among logistics partners is often the most fool proof way to develop processes while cutting down costs. It helps to add value to the services of both the companies. It allows you to come up with innovative solutions for complex projects which would never have been possible by working alone.
The growth of our network in the past few years has been astounding. Although we
have 192 cities already covered, we still have enough room for more agents!
